Subject Description

    This subject will provide students with an introduction to the conference and events industry. Topics to be included are planning and management of conferences and events, operational aspects of meetings and events, marketing and service quality as applied to event management, and the role of meetings and events in destination development. Students will be involved in a simulated or actual planning process for a conference or special event.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply concepts from marketing, consumer behaviour, financial control and human resource management to conference and event planning and management
  • examine the core content areas central to conference and event planning and management including definitions of key types of events and meetings, key elements in the planning of events and meetings, and the role of events in destination development

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Critical appraisal/review - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Project plan - (30%) - Group
