Subject Description

    A broad introduction to contemporary biology, from the way cells, organs and individual organisms function, through to molecular biology, genetics, micro- and macroevolution and the processes underlying the diversity of life and ecosystems.

Learning Outcomes

  • identify and apply the basic principles of cellular activities
  • apply knowledge of inheritance mechanisms to explain patterns of plant and animal diversity and biogeography
  • understand and apply the basics of ecology and micro- and macroevolutionary biology
  • identify the structure and function of cell organelles, and their roles in sustaining an organism's life

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (70%) - Individual
  • Written > Project report - (30%) - Individual
