Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to basic mathematical concepts that are applied to academic situations such as unit conversion and statistical analysis. Topics include basic operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurement, graphs, and measures of central tendency. The delivery of the subject focuses on using these mathematical concepts and techniques to solve real problems.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply mathematical skills to a range of practical life skills and academic contexts
  • Use multiplication, division, decimals, percentages and a scientific calculator in mathematical analysis
  • Demonstrate basic algebraic concepts such as solving equations and the application of formulae
  • Use tables and graphs for representing statistical data (i.e., bar graphs and histograms)

  • Written > Problem task - (30%) - Individual
  • Participation > Online participation - (20%) - Individual
