Subject Description

    This subject details the organisation, structure and function of the body with an emphasis on the role of the nervous and endocrine systems on control, regulation and movement. Anatomy and physiology, including of bones, joints and muscles, will be studied to understand movement and how it is controlled and regulated by the central and peripheral nervous systems. Topics will include bone growth and repair, muscle contraction and the nerve-muscle interface, as well as the role of neurons in communication.

Learning Outcomes

  • explain the structure and function of bones, joints and muscles of the musculoskeletal system
  • describe how the nervous and endocrine systems coordinate and work together to bring about homeostasis
  • describe and identify the major structures and functions of the nervous system
  • describe and identify the major structures and functions of the endocrine system

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (30%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration - (30%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Achieve an overall percentage of 50% or more (an aggregate of the on-course assessment and the final examination); Attend at least 80% of the overall lectures & practicals.
