Credit points:03
Year:2024
Student Contribution Band:Band 2
Prerequisites:BM1110
Administered by:College of Public Health, Medical and Vet Sciences

Subject Description

This subject begins by outlining the principles involved in the study of the body at the cellular, tissue and system level. This will include an introduction to the anatomy and physiology of a range of body systems. Each body system will be investigated at the microscopic, macroscopic and physiological level using a combination of cadaveric material (prosections) and histological sections. The importance of how the body systems interact and coordinate to maintain homeostasis will be explored.

Learning Outcomes

  • use anatomical terminology to describe cells, tissue, organs and the whole organism
  • relate structure to function
  • describe and identify the structure of cells, tissues and organ systems
  • describe and identify the major structures and functions of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal and reproductive system

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (40%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration - (20%) - Individual
