Subject Description

    This subject introduces the concept of public health management and the importance of connecting public health and health management for effective resource management and the improvement of health outcomes. The subject introduces management theory, public health policy making, planning and managing public health projects, the roles of advocacy and leadership as they pertain to public health. Topics include: health system and system thinking, management and leadership in all levels, policy formulation and evaluation, project planning and management, advocacy, public health workforce and workforce development, and project planning and evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

  • appraise the basic principles of management theory and management processes
  • critique, appraise and assemble public health policy and policy formulation
  • formulate strategies in implementation of policy
  • plan and manage public health programs
