SL3011 - Speech Pathology Clinical Processes C

Subject Description

This subject further develops students' clinical knowledge, skills, and professional attributes with an emphasis on advancing competence to work clinically with children and adults with a range of communication needs. Students will develop awareness and ability to apply a range of advanced communication techniques for the purpose of facilitating clients' and other stakeholders' engagement and participation in speech pathology practices. The subject will provide opportunities to consolidate and further develop skills in administering assessment and implementing intervention in a range of practice areas including voice. Students will undertake direct and simulated clinical placement activities under the supervision of clinical educators and will gain experience of working with paediatric and/or adult clients with concerns related to communication and/or swallowing.

Learning Outcomes

• apply clinical reasoning to the planning of evidence-informed assessment and intervention practices for children and/or adults with communication and/or swallowing concerns
• administer and implement a range of speech pathology assessment and intervention approaches applicable to working with children and adults with communication and/or swallowing concerns
• apply advanced knowledge and clinical skills in providing speech pathology services to clients with concerns related to voice
• critically reflect on own clinical performance and identify opportunities for further personal and professional development with reference to professional standards of speech pathology practice in Australia including client centred and evidence informed practices

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; pass every assessment item; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; attend all scheduled clinical placement hours; participate in at least 80% of all class activities.
