Subject Description

    This subject further develops the clinical knowledge, skills and attributes, as outlined in professional standards for speech pathology in Australia. Students will undertake clinical placement under the supervision and guidance of a clinical educator. This placement experience will involve working directly with paediatric clients with speech, language, and/or other communication needs and their parents/carers. Clinical placements will involve planning and implementation of assessment and intervention practices within client-centred, holistic, and evidence-informed frameworks and models of service delivery.

Learning Outcomes

  • administer and implement a range of speech pathology assessments and intervention approaches applicable to working with children with non-complex speech, language, and/or communication needs
  • communicate effectively to facilitate children's and parents' participation and engagement in speech pathology assessment and intervention practices
  • reflect on own clinical performance and learning with reference to professional standards of speech pathology practice in Australia
  • apply clinical reasoning to the planning of evidence-informed and client-centered assessment and intervention for children with non-complex speech, language, and/or other communication needs

  • Performance/Practice/Product > Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) - (40%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Professional placement performance - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; pass every assessment item; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; attend all scheduled clinical placement hours; participate in at least 80% of all class activities.
