Subject Description

    This subject introduces advanced linguistics concepts as a basis for studies in speech pathology including semantics, morphology, syntax, pragmatics and literacy for diverse linguistic populations. This subject introduces how these various aspects of communication are used, analysed and acquired, and presents an integrated overview of speech and language development.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe communication development and approaches to support communication development for diverse populations
  • Analyse linguistic forms
  • Integrate and apply knowledge of phonetics, phonology, semantics, morphology, syntax and pragmatics to speech pathology practice and for diverse populations

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (25%) - Individual
  • Participation > Observation; Written > Reflection - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > Test/Quiz 2 - (15%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements
