Subject Description

    Students will learn to critically appraise and analyse research publications in the fields of health and rehabilitation. This will include consideration of issues related to selection of outcome measures, establishing reliability, validity and reproducibility, selection of appropriate methodology and statistical analysis, bias and ethical issues.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate skills to retrieve and appraise relevant research in the health and rehabilitation fields
  • deconstruct published research using systematic analysis and evaluation of the findings in the context of current rehabilitation practice and best practice
  • critically appraise clinical guidelines, policies and frameworks as they relate to the provision of rehabilitation

Subject Assessment

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Critical appraisal/review - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Literature review - (30%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied; pass every assessment.
