Subject Description

    The objective of this subject is to provide students with a systematic introduction to the theory and practice of counselling in a multicultural society. Informed by a multicultural counselling perspective students will explore mechanisms for engaging with issues related to culture and diversity when working with clients from different cultural backgrounds.

Learning Outcomes

  • evaluate ethical and legal issues as they relate to professional counselling practice
  • discuss a range of philosophical and theoretical approaches to counselling culturally diverse populations
  • demonstrate knowledge and practice of the basic microskills necessary for counsellors

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Case study analysis - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Self-reflection task - (10%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration - (30%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements
