Subject Description

    This subject will introduce a number of issues in the field of health psychology. The subject will examine a selection of contemporary topics and problems in depth. Areas covered include determinants of health, health behaviour change and health promotion, stress management, and positive psychology. Students will gain an appreciation for the importance of social, psychological, and physical factors in shaping health and wellness.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify theoretical principles and research findings in health psychology
  • Critically appraise theoretical perspectives and research in health psychology
  • Identify and evaluate applications of health psychology principles in health promotion programs

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - Individual
  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (30%) - Group & Individual
  • Written > Literature review - (30%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Pass requirements: attend at least 80% of tutorial classes; complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.

Assumed Knowledge:  To undertake this subject, students must have successfully completed 12 credit points (four subjects) of level 1 study at tertiary level
