Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to the workings of international relations and world politics. It examines foreign relations, globalisation, security dimensions, and the international political economy. Historical as well as recent cases of conflict and cooperation are discussed. Key and foundational concepts and theories in international relations are introduced to students, alongside examinations of the important roles played by international organisations, regional organisations, and international non-governmental organisations, to arrest conflict and promote international cooperation.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply foundational International Relations concepts and theories and analyse a range of issues and topics examining conflict, cooperation, globalisation and interdependence within the global system
  • evaluate the foreign relations, security and international political economy dimensions that have shaped contemporary world politics to identify the impact of conflict and cooperation within the global system
  • research and analyse the roles played by international actors such as states, international organisations and international non-governmental organisations in world politics to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas
