Subject Description

Infectious and dermatological conditions are commonly occurring forms of disease, particularly in tropical, rural and remote locations. This integrated subject will allow students to describe and differentiate a range of infectious diseases and dermatological conditions, and recommend suitable pharmacological and non-pharmacological management options. Students will also gain an understanding of the clinical usage of the medications used to manage these conditions. Students will develop an understanding of the principles of antimicrobial stewardship, disease prevention and treatment, the identification of common infections and skin diseases, and factors affecting the use and selection of topical medications.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate and apply skills associated with antimicrobial and infection control in relation to clinical settings
  • Understand and apply pharmacokinetic and therapeutic principles to ensure rational drug use in the management of infectious and dermatological conditions, particularly in vulnerable populations
