NS3363 - Mental Health for Nursing and Midwifery

Subject Description

    This subject explores contemporary mental health issues across the lifespan with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention. Students will also explore a range of therapeutic approaches used in mental health including the importance of the use of self and development of the therapeutic alliance will underpin approaches to managing mental disorders in a range of settings.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate ability to respond to the needs of consumers and carers from diverse backgrounds when the person experiences a mental disorder
  • Implement appropriate techniques to facilitate and build therapeutic relationships with the person and their carers
  • Integrate attitudes and skills necessary for clinical application with consumers who have mental disorders
  • Apply principles of prevention and early intervention for mental health

Subject Assessment
