Subject Description

    This module explores how active and meaningful engagement and collaboration with health consumers, families, and communities is key to providing culturally safe services. Students will gain an understanding of governance structures, policies and processes, including formal and informal engagement mechanisms, that enable active and informed participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in decision making regarding their own care.

Learning Outcomes

  • Generate appropriate and relevant recommendations for local service community engagement mechanisms, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples considering existing community groups and assets
  • Explain the implementation and/or enactment of one or more of the recommendations in providing a culturally safe service to a person who identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
