MO1014 - Community-based Cancer Care

Prerequisites:Participants are responsible for ensuring they are practicing in accordance with the regulatory instruments of their specific allied health profession, within their own personal scope of practice and experience level and in accordance with the policies of their employer. This module requires access to a patient or consumer that is a cancer survivor, a cancer survicor's family member or significant other, so as to demonstrate achievement of module outcomes in the appropriate clinical context.

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Social Work and Speech Pathology.

Subject Description

    This module builds rural generalist knowledge and skills in service provision for consumers experiencing cancer who are living in the rural and remote communities. Participants explore the presentation and impact of the condition with specific attention to development of clinical practices and service processes.

Learning Outcomes

  • examine the broad impact of cancer and its treatment upon consumers, within the context of rural and remote health service delivery
  • design and develop evidence-based strategies and service improvement options to support consumers living with cancer in rural and remote communities as they deal with issues relating to survivorship and/or disease progression. These outcomes will contribute to overall achievement of program learning outcomes

  • Oral - Interview; Written - Case study analysis - Individual
