Subject Description

    This subject examines major developments in world history from the late nineteenth century through to more contemporary times. With due consideration given to political and economic issues, Modern World History explores the immense social and cultural transformations that characterised the twentieth century.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate appropriate analytical skills in research and writing history, specifically world history in the twentieth century
  • employ and interpret historical resources and archives, including digital archives
  • deconstruct historical representations and narratives to identify different forms and types of historical construction and their consumption
  • analyse and interpret twentieth-century world history from cultural, social, political or economic perspectives that demonstrate inter- cultural awareness
  • demonstrate competence in the key branches of historical inquiry and their functions in the study of world history in the twentieth century

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Participation > Class participation - (10%) - Group
  • Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (40%) - Individual
