Subject Description

    This subject introduces contemporary concepts of career and career development, and develops the process of personal career planning. Students will explore their individual career aspirations, develop personal career goals, research career and employment trends in their preferred industries, and develop an understanding of the knowledge, skills, and capabilities required to support career success. With this knowledge students will undertake skills gap analyses to derive personal developmental goals and prepare an individual career plan to support development of a bespoke career narrative.

Learning Outcomes

  • reflect on personal career motivations, goals and development needs through the development of a personal career plan
  • evaluate and evidence career relevance of core professional skills such as problem solving, professional communication and teamwork
  • plan the trajectory of your transition from higher education to employment
  • critically analyse industry employment trends and contemporary workforce requirements to formulate data-based options for a personal career plan
  • apply knowledge of industry trends to identify professional and technical skill requirements for chosen career path

  • Written > Action plan - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Research report - (30%) - Individual
