Subject Description

    The primary goal of this subject is to develop the specialised pedagogical content knowledge for planning, teaching and assessing the Year 7-10 Australian Curriculum in graduate student teachers' second teaching area. Emphasis is placed on developing pedagogical understandings and integrating the General Capabilities (specifically, Personal and Social Capability, Ethical Understanding and Intercultural Understanding) required of secondary school teachers in the selected curriculum area, for diverse learners. The core strand of the subject also focuses on the Information Communication Technology General Capability across the secondary curriculum, to complement and enhance curriculum development.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply knowledge of student learning to set learning goals and plan effective learning and teaching sequences and assessment that demonstrates an integrated understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content of the junior secondary curriculum
  • demonstrate advanced and integrated understanding of differentiated teaching strategies to meeting the learning needs of students across the full range of abilities in a selected curriculum area
  • integrate General Capabilities (specifically, Personal and Social Capability, Ethical Understanding and Intercultural Understanding) in a selected curriculum area and enact practices that attend pedagogically to these demands
  • build and articulate a repertoire of teaching strategies and resources, including ICT, and those for teaching literacy and numeracy, that engage and expand learning opportunities for diverse students
  • demonstrate an understanding of the relevant issues and the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching
