Subject Description

    In this subject, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners by the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA). Students will integrate key practices required to maintain high professional standards with ethical conduct of professional practice, considerations for diversity, program design and management and life-long learning and continuous professional development. Students will also integrate effective management of career counselling practice across multiple contexts, including education, employment and community organisations. The Professional Practice intensive workshop will enable students to apply their knowledge of professional standards to both real-play (real world) and hypothetical scenarios. The workshop will assist students to deepen there understanding of all elements of professional practice, consider the application of these standards to a broad range of client types and needs, and to build an applied understanding of tools and techniques available to a contemporary Career Practitioner.

  • assess needs and design specific programs for diverse clients across a range of contexts
  • analyse and apply Australian Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) ethical code and standards that guide the work of career development practitioners
  • create strategies for diverse clients across multiple contexts, including education, employment and community organisations

Assumed Knowledge:  Ability to produce both written and verbal work at a graduate level. Possession of strong academic literacies as required for the successful completion of the assessment tasks in this subject. Appropriate and adequate knowledge and skills to engage critically with assigned readings and activities. Possession of general digital skills to undertake studies in an online learning environment.
