Subject Description

    General principles of surveying, methods used in surveying. Recording and plotting detail. Principles of construction and adjustment of instruments. Levelling and contouring. Theodolite and compass traversing. Precise levelling, tacheometric surveying. Setting out engineering works, excavations for foundations. Areas and earthwork quantities. Application of computers in surveying. Particular civil engineering applications, route locations, tunnelling, hydrographic surveying. Remote sensing including aerial and terrestrial photogrammetry. Construction introduction to civil construction equipment and methods; construction techniques, tendering and estimating.
