Subject Description

    The subject covers different national business systems in Western economies such as the US, UK, France, Germany and major Eastern economies in Asia such as Japan, China, India and the Asian Tigers. Students will explore the differences in the ways that business and the political economy are interrelated in these major trading economies. The post-World War II transformations of these economies are discussed, in particular as it relates to the differential outcomes for each economy.

Learning Outcomes

  • compare the major models of international political economic systems distinguishing between them in terms of their assumptions and economic implications
  • explain the political, historical and economical evolution of major trading economies
  • evaluate the complexity of business-related knowledge and practice from both historical and recent perspectives
  • apply creative and innovative thinking in the presentation and communication of complex business analyses to varied audiences

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Reflection/reflective task 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Written > Research report - (40%) - Group
