Subject Description

    Innovation driven entrepreneurship explores strategy and entrepreneurship presenting these integrated areas in a theoretical, applied and experiential manner based on key themes. These include mainstream and social entrepreneurship identifying commonalities and differences between each category. Moving between strategy and operations it illustrates the links between the two areas and explains how both are necessary for entrepreneurial success. The subject achieves this through discussion of the agile design methodology in customer development and the lean venture with analysis of numerous theoretical and empirical examples in developing a competitive business.

Learning Outcomes

  • explain the nature of entrepreneurship and its importance economically and socially in an international, national & regional context
  • identify the types of entrepreneurs and their activities; traditional & social; ethnic & indigenous
  • analyse the role played between innovation and entrepreneurial activity to sustain a viable business
  • develop strategic entrepreneurial skills by identifying and analysing opportunities demonstrating feasibility
  • explain and examine functions of a business model and demonstrate the skills in developing a viable model to exploit entrepreneurial opportunity
