Subject Description

This subject will allow students the opportunity for an advanced and detailed study of human body structure and function, and to apply this knowledge within a chosen clinical study area. The subject will comprise a number of study areas: I.Detailed study of the gross anatomical structure and functional anatomy of several body regions through individual cadaveric dissections. i.The first dissection region will be organized to review basic anatomical principles and to aid development of basic dissection techniques and skills. ii.The second dissection region will be undertaken in conjunction with a research topic and will develop application of anatomical knowledge to clinical conditions. II.Study of a dissection-aligned clinical study area through guided dissection and a brief research project (which will be assessed through oral presentation of the topic). III.Integrated understanding of the human body through practical sessions, which will include both the dissection and the detailed study of human cadaveric materials.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate a deep knowledge and comprehension of the structure of the human body through cadaveric dissection
  • integrate and relate normal human structure to both common anatomical variations and the development of pathology
  • demonstrate the skills required to access, appraise and deliver relevant clinical research data

Subject Assessment

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (35%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration 1 - (30%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration 2 - (35%) - Individual

Note that minor variations might occur due to the continuous subject quality improvement process, and in case of minor variation(s) in assessment details, the Subject Outline represents the latest official information.
