TV5230 - Advanced Epidemiology

Available to graduate students with a degree in Public Health, Medical, Veterinary or related Sciences. Other appropriately trained graduates may enrol at the discretion of the Academic Head of Veterinary Science.

Subject Description

Available to graduate students with an interest in advanced epidemiology. A multi-mode learning module, which will enable students to complete it at their own pace and primarily off campus. It is designed to allow veterinarians and related health professionals obtain advanced knowledge in disease modelling techniques, applied economics and risk analysis.

Learning Outcomes

• apply quantitative and qualitative procedures and techniques for making decisions applicable to health professionals involved with populations
• develop suitable models for disease outbreak and disease control situations
• integrate and apply appropriate economic methods to disease control prevention strategies
• develop quantitative and qualitative risk analysis model

Subject Assessment

• Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (60%) - Individual
• Written > Tutorial task - (40%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Achieve an overall score percentage of 50% or more; Complete all 4 Assignments (each weighted 10%, combined weight 40%). Attend a final exam (weighted 60%) and achieve a score of at least 50%.
