Available to graduate students with a degree in Veterinary Science. Other appropriately trained graduates may enrol at the discretion of the Academic Head of Veterinary Science.
Subject Description
- Discussion groups and assignments will cover the aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and control of bacterial, viral and infectious diseases of animals. The subject will emphasise the epidemiological approach to the diagnosis and control of infectious diseases of livestock and is complementary to TV5010 and TV5040.
Learning Outcomes
- explain the factors driving the evolution of emerging infectious diseases
- relate knowledge on the epidemiology, aetiology and pathogenesis of major infectious diseases with the diagnosis and control of these diseases
- explain the effects of infectious disease on livestock production and welfare as well as on national and international trade
- discuss the major bacterial, viral and mycotic diseases of livestock by organ system or by syndrome focusing on the epidemiology, aetiology and pathogenesis of these diseases
Subject Assessment
- Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (70%) - Individual
- Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (30%) - Individual
