TO5105 - Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE)

Subject Description

This subject introduces students to a career in event management in the MICE sector. Students will learn to develop an understanding of the conference and events management industry. Students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to critically evaluate a range of operations, communication and design management. As an important aspect of using theories and processes learnt, students will be tasked with the organisation and conduct of an actual event. The subject will develop graduates who are able to create and deliver a diverse range of events from conception through to evaluation

Learning Outcomes

• examine and apply theories and knowledge of details involved in planning, designing and executing an international event/conference
• critically evaluate the requirement and deployment of multimedia, social media and mass communication technology to stage a successful event
• examine and apply evidence-based decision-making in sourcing relevant vendors and sponsors, and in the management of budget, time and other resources

Subject Assessment

• Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (50%) - Individual
• Participation > Class participation - (10%) - Individual
• Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (40%) - Individual
