Subject Description

    This subject provides an introduction and overview of the discipline of public health,including the core principles of prevention, promotion and protection that underpin it. Students will gain knowledge and skills to assess public health interventions across a range of issues - including policy and service - relevant to both communicable and noncommunicable disease and injury burden in a range of locations. Course content will draw on both domestic and international examples but will retain a special focus on issues most relevant to the tropics

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate an understanding of the scope, nature and applicability of public health in the tropics
  • critically analyse the underlying determinants of health in the tropics
  • synthesise, critique and evaluate health information to develop public health approaches to improve health of populations
  • apply public health principles in developing appropriate policies and strategies to improve the health of tropical populations

  • Written > Examination (College administered) - (45%) - Individual
