SP3016 - Exercise Prescription and Delivery

Subject Description

    The subject introduces students to professional issues relevant to working as a sport and exercise science practitioner. The student is provided with an extended opportunity to apply classroom learned knowledge and skills. Students will build on material learned in previous subjects to successfully prescribe and deliver exercise. The subject provides experience in the communication and therapeutic micro skills necessary to work effectively with clients. Topics include client induction, interviewing, history taking, goal setting, periodisation and program planning. Issues of client reluctance and resistance will also be addressed. Other topics will include professional development and communication, ethics and legal considerations. Students will identify, describe, analyse and demonstrate a broad range of exercise modalities, and select appropriate exercises and equipment to suit the needs and abilities of clients.

  • Must pass hurdle requirement; meeting with supervisor to show client pre-screening paperwork and 4 week exercise plan - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: achieve satisfactory completion of practicum hours; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; participate in all scheduled workshops and practicals; refer to subject outline for further detail regarding must pass requirements.
