SP3011 - Sports Training and Rehabilitation

Subject Description

    This subject examines the principles and practices of sports training and rehabilitation and the role that the sport and exercise scientist plays in the injury prevention and rehabilitation process. Topics will complement the Level 1 Sports Trainer course, include factors contributing to sports injury, injury prevention techniques, including stretching; sports injuries and the associated management and treatment modalities; and designing programs to prevent and rehabilitate sports injuries.

Learning Outcomes

  • describe the aetiology of injury in relation to physical demands in sport and growth and the physiological processes of healing, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts of injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation
  • demonstrate appropriate professional behaviour, reasoning and judgement in problem solving and decision making using a client-centred approach to deliver rehabilitation programs that are evidence-based and safe
  • assess, review and synthesize a range of functional movement analyses and apply evidence in injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation to athletic populations
  • communicate clearly and coherently through well-developed written and verbal proficiency

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; participate in at least 80% of scheduled practical classes.
