SP1011 - Physical Activity for Health

Subject Description

This subject will explore the relationships between physical activity, sedentary behaviour and health. Students will explore the prevalence of chronic disease in Australia and the impact of physical activity on health and development. Students will apply population level health recommendations for physical activity to the general population and to populations at risk of participating in insufficient levels of physical activity.

Learning Outcomes

• Identify populations at risk of insufficient physical activity or sedentary behaviour, and identify agencies involved in the promotion of physical activity
• Summarise population level recommendations for optimising physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour
• Describe the prevalence of chronic conditions in Australia and the benefits of optimising physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour in terms of general health and the prevention and management of chronic conditions across the lifespan
• Describe the structural, physiological and motor development changes across the lifespan and summarise the effects of physical activity on these changes

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; participate in at least 80% of scheduled practical classes.
