Subject Description

This subject is designed to prepare students for the completion of an independent research project in a field of tropical health and medicine and associated disciplines under the supervision of one or more advisors. Students will complete a critical review of contemporary and relevant literature which should provide a contextual background and inform the development of a research proposal. The written research proposal should clearly define the topic, provide a rationale for the proposed research, outline methods for generating, gathering and/or analysing research data and discuss issues associated with those methods. The research proposal should be supported by the preparation of relevant ethics and biosafety applications as appropriate for the field of study to seek approval for the proposed research project to be conducted. Students will also be required to give an oral presentation of their research proposal during an entry seminar to an audience of post-graduate peers, academics and researchers.
