Subject Description

    This is the second of three research subjects within the Masters of Psychology (Clinical) program, and is the first of the two-subject research thesis chain with PY6403. Across the subject chain, students will apply their knowledge and skills in synthesising and evaluating literature, and ethically collecting and analysing data, to execute a research project. Students will use this information to compose a research thesis that expertly interprets information and provides accurate conclusions to a complex theoretical or professional practice issue in clinical psychology.

  • apply mastery knowledge of research principles, methods, and ethics to execute a substantial piece of research that addresses a complex theoretical or professional practice issue in clinical psychology, with independence
  • expertly communicate research findings using advanced written, presentation, and oral communication skills

Subject Assessment

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.

Special Assessment Requirements

Pass requirements: pass every assessment item as listed in in PY6403; participate in mini-conference. The thesis will be examined by at least two examiners, one of which is external to JCU. The thesis must incorporate a critical review of the literature, and may take many forms including: an empirical research project; an experimental single case design study; a systematic review; program or service evaluation.
