PS4004 - Advanced Topics in Physiotherapy

Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to several selected areas of specialised physiotherapy practice. The areas of practice have been chosen to develop advanced skills in areas of practice or introduce students to areas of specialised practice they may not have encountered during clinical placement. Students will also be required to participate in 20 hours of professional development in the course of the study period. This will serve to highlight the importance of continual skills development for these emerging health professionals.

Learning Outcomes

  • evaluate the rationale for specialised assessment in a range of conditions relevant to advanced physiotherapy practice
  • interpret pathologies in order to develop appropriate treatment plans relevant to advanced physiotherapy practice
  • demonstrate safe and effective professional performance of advanced clinical skills

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (65%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration - (35%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied; achieve at least 60% for the written exam; achieve at least 50% for the practical exam; attend at least 80% of scheduled practical classes.
