PS4003 - Physiotherapy Health Law and Ethics

Subject Description

    This subject will increase the students knowledge of Health Law and its application to physiotherapy practice. Students will gain an understanding of ethics and bioethics and develop skills in working through complex moral and ethical issues, recognising and reflecting on different points of view.

Learning Outcomes

  • identify ethical issues and apply ethical theories and professional guidelines to clinical reasoning for health professional service delivery
  • apply clinical reasoning to conceptual thinking and reflective practice
  • demonstrate knowledge of relevant government legislation affecting all areas of health professional practice
  • demonstrate a sound grasp of legal and ethical decision-making in professional service delivery in a multicultural society whether urban, rural or remote

  • Oral > Viva - (60%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Portfolio - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied; achieve at least 50% for the viva and written case study; attend at least 80% of scheduled classes; achieve satisfactory/pass for portfolio tasks.
