PP3101 - Advanced and Integrated Physiology

Subject Description

    This subject will focus on advanced topics in physiology including integrated cellular and organ system function. This subject expands on the principles and concepts introduced in the Medical Physiology subjects with particular emphasis on the integrated function of organ systems under varying physiological states. The subject emphasises the importance of communicating experimental findings and critical analysis at a professional level.

Learning Outcomes

  • students will be able to analyse the normal physiological processes of selected organ systems at an advanced level using the current literature in this area
  • students will be able to describe the manner in which these organ systems integrate function in order to serve the organism's needs
  • students will observe the consequences of altering key physiological variables on organ system function
  • students will be able to discuss the interplay between body systems as physiological conditions change

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (10%) - Individual
  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (10%) - Group
  • Written > Lab/Practical report - (40%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Achieve an overall percentage of 50% or more; A satisfactory level (>40%) overall on-course assessment components; A grade of at least 40% on the written final theory exam
