Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to the importance of politics in an interdependent and constantly changing world. Conflict, contestation, co-operation, communication and power are all part of political science. So are globalisation, democratisation and environmental challenges. The subject is organised around four central themes: political concepts; politics and society; machinery of government; and political change. It adopts a comparative perspective, drawing on a diverse range of countries and political systems, and introduces key features of Australian politics.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse and evaluate differing political systems, including the Australian political system
  • Transmit knowledge, skills and ideas to others identifying major political concepts and ideologies
  • Analyse, generate and transmit solutions to contemporary political issues experienced in different countries

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Proposal - (20%) - Individual
