Administered by:College of Public Health, Medical & Vet Sciences (pre 2023 PCS)

Subject Description

This subject begins with an introduction to the anatomy and physiology of a range of body systems. Each body system will be investigated at the macroscopic and physiological level using a combination of human cadaveric material and physiology laboratory examinations. The importance of how the body systems interact and coordinate to maintain homeostasis will be explored. This knowledge is essential for careers in health related areas, including pharmacy and drug research development.

Learning Outcomes

  • describe the anatomy and physiology underlying the cellular processes in a range of body systems
  • compare and contrast how these systems work together in normal human functioning
  • relate structure to function
  • describe the different levels of organisation within the human body as they relate to the various processes undertaken to maintain homeostasis

Subject Assessment
