Subject Description

    The subject prepares students for professional practice in an interdisciplinary clinical setting. Through the use of a series of evolving cases, students will put into practice key knowledge and skills learned previously in the course. Students will demonstrate educational interventions typically used in patient related services provided by diabetes educators. Students will also engage with relevant professional development resources useful in their future practice to ensure they are oriented to relevant CPD opportunities. Students will further develop competence during supervised/mentored practice in the clinical setting.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate and critically reflect on professional entry level competencies, as a novice diabetes educator
  • explore and critically evaluate evidence-based information translating research into practice
  • actively participate in multidisciplinary team collaboration to facilitate safe and effective client centred health outcomes within a clearly defined scope of practice
  • apply evidence and knowledge of diabetes best practice to typical diabetes related presentations

Special Assessment Requirements
