Subject Description

    This subject explores contemporary mental health issues across the lifespan with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention. Students will also explore a range of therapeutic approaches used in mental health including the importance of the use of self and development of the therapeutic alliance will underpin approaches to managing mental disorders in a range of settings.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate ability to respond to the needs of consumers and carers from diverse backgrounds when the person experiences a mental disorder
  • implement appropriate techniques to facilitate and build therapeutic relationships with the person and their carers
  • integrate attitudes and skills necessary for clinical application with consumers who have mental disorders
  • apply principles of prevention and early intervention for mental health

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in at least 80% of scheduled tutorial classes/specified online content; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
