Subject Description

    This subject extends the principles of patient assessment to include the utilisation of data in planning care for the patient using a person centered approach. Infection control principles are introduced in the context of asepsis and wound management. Quality use of medicines is emphasised with a focus on medication calculation and safety.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply principles of person centered care in the provision of basic nursing care across the lifespan
  • accurately perform a systems based health assessment
  • utilise assessment data to identify, plan and review nursing interventions
  • demonstrate practical application of principles of asepsis, wound management and safe medication administration
  • apply the Registered Nurse standards for practice in the provision of evidenced based nursing care at a beginning level

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in at least 80% of scheduled on-campus tutorial classes/online collaboration sessions; participate in all scheduled clinical skills classes; achieve a satisfactory grade for the portfolio, clinical calculations test and clinical skills assessment tasks; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
