MO1022 - Skill-sharing 1

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Speech Pathology.

Subject Description

This module supports you and your health service to develop, implement and evaluate a work-based training program in skill-sharing tasks. You will select a clinical task/s that your local health service requires you to deliver in a skill-shared capacity, and which is supported by the approved or planned local service delivery strategy explored in MO1005. You will draw upon the knowledge gained in MO1005 relating to risk, quality, systems and processes to support the integration of skill-sharing into your service. In the context of this module skill-sharing involves two or more allied health professionals sharing knowledge, skills and responsibilities across professional boundaries in assessment, diagnosis, planning and/or intervention. You will acquire the underpinning knowledge required in the selected clinical area through accessing module learning resources. Clinical skills training and competence assessment will occur in the workplace. Participants will demonstrate the safe and effective implementation of a skill-shared task/s under the clinical governance framework of their health service. Skill-share clinical task clusters supported by this module are: Activities of Daily Living and Function; Cognition/Perception/Memory; Foot Care; Mobility and Transfers; and Social/Psychological/Behavioural. Participants need to be supported by their employing health service to train in and implement one or more skill-share tasks in practice. The health service will require a service model and clinical governance framework that includes skill-sharing. At a minimum this will include a: Formal professional supervision process; Clinical outcomes/safety monitoring systems; and Training records management process. Prior to enrolment participant's must have identified: A clinical task cluster; A suitable local task trainer.

Learning Outcomes

• initiate, plan and evaluate a specific skill- sharing training plan in collaboration with colleagues using processes and documentation relevant to their workplace
• apply specialised knowledge to achieve competency or progress towards achieving competency in the identified clinical task/s within the scope of the relevant health service model
