MO1015 - Psycho-social Well-being

| Prerequisites: | Participants are responsible for ensuring they are practicing in accordance with the regulatory instruments of their specific allied health profession, within their own personal scope of practice and experience level and in accordance with the policies of their employer. This module requires access to a patient or consumer with a health condition that is impacting on their psycho-social wellbeing, so as to demonstrate achievement of module outcomes in the appropriate clinical context. |

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Dietetics, Medical Imaging, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech Pathology.
Subject Description
- This module provides participants with the opportunity to explore their profession-specific role within a multidisciplinary team in care of the psycho-social well-being of consumers from rural and remote locations. This module is not about clinical mental health. Participants apply concepts of best practice and quality improvement to psycho-social well-being services within the rural and remote health context. As part of this module participants are required to complete the eLearning Component of the Blended Mental Health First Aid Course for Tertiary Students (MHFA) at an additional cost to participants of $55, found at https://mhfa.com.au/courses/elearning/32486
Learning Outcomes
- describe the significance of psycho-social well- being within the context of health service delivery in rural and remote communities
- demonstrate knowledge of best practice to maintain and regain psycho-social well-being in order to improve health outcomes
- create evidence-based practice recommendations for health service improvements in response to the needs of consumers from rural and remote communities attempting to maintain or regain psycho-social well-being whilst experiencing an acute health condition or when living with chronic health conditions
- complete formal training in Mental Health First Aid
