MO1008 - Child Development

Prerequisites:Participants are responsible for ensuring they are practicing in accordance with the regulatory instruments of their specific allied health profession, within their own personal scope of practice and experience level and in accordance with the policies of their employer. This module requires access to a paediatric patient or consumer population, so as to demonstrate achievement of module outcomes in the appropriate clinical context.

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Social Work and Speech Pathology.

Subject Description

    This module explores child development within the domains of physical, cognitive, psychosocial and communicative development. Participants will be guided to review current child services in their local area, identify child assessments, and develop an evidence-based intervention plan for a child client, utilising effective communication within an interprofessional team.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate an understanding of typical and atypical child development
  • identify services, networks and pathways to external or specialist services in your local area to recognise the roles of the allied health professionals in these services
  • design and implement an evidence-based interprofessional intervention plan for a child with, or at risk of, developmental disruption or delay, who lives in a rural or remote context, in consideration of current service gaps in your local area
