Subject Description

    The subject will cover introductory aspects of discrete mathematics. Topics include Sets and Boolean operations, Cartesian product, Relations and Functions, Function composition, propositional and predicate logic, basic counting principles, permutations and combinations, recursion, proof by induction, introduction to graph theory.

Learning Outcomes

  • recognise and use sets and set operations
  • correctly apply binary operations, composition and transitive closure of binary operations
  • correctly apply functions and function composition and basic counting techniques
  • correctly apply graph concepts and notation
  • correctly apply propositional logic and quantifiers and proof by induction

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (70%) - Individual
  • Written > Problem task - (30%) - Individual
