Subject Description

    This subject consolidates the understanding of Tok Pisin obtained in LN1001. Students' knowledge and understanding of Tok Pisin grammatical structures (morphosyntax) will be extended. Elementary competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing the language will be will be developed further. Students will continue to be exposed to Melanesian culture as it relates to language, especially kinship, traditional practices, terms for unique foods, flora, and fauna. Continued topical emphasis will be placed on linguistic structures most needed by fieldworkers and healthcare workers. Students will be uniquely placed to engage with this important partner and adjacent areas through trade, diplomacy and cultural collaboration.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate extended elementary listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Tok Pisin
  • further utilise elementary structures and particular grammatical functions of Tok Pisin
  • communicate in Tok Posin in speaking and writing on selected topics of daily living and modern importance
  • consider the sociocultural dimensions of Tok Pisin use
