In addition to meeting the specific prerequisites, students wishing to undertake Legal Placement must visit the WIL website, and apply as per instructions provided. Applications are to be received no later than two (2) weeks prior to the commencement of the study period. Application are assessed by the WIL Coordinator. This process applies to students enrolled on the Townsville or Cairns Campus. External students must self-source their own placement and can do this by following the instructions provided on the WIL website at https://www.jcu.edu.au/college-of-business-law-and-governance/Work-Integrated-Learning.

Subject Description

    This Work Integrated Learning subject enables students to gain insights into and practical experience within either a domestic professional legal practice or an international legal organisation. Within a domestic placement students spend a minimum of 12 days working in an approved legal workplace under the supervision of a legal practitioner. The domestic placement has a focus on the necessary links between the theory and practice of law, practical legal skills and an understanding of the legal profession. Within an organised international placement students spend a minimum of 12 days working with a legal organisation in country on projects and programs which seek to enhance access to justice and social justice. The international placement has a focus on understanding and promoting inter-cultural capabilities and the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals (particularly SDG 16).
