Subject Description

    This subject aims to provide students with a thorough grounding in contemporary law and policy on the nature and the operation of the Torrens system of land title and specific interests in land. It builds on the foundation knowledge about land law gained from LA2015 (Land Law 1). The subject thoroughly examines the operation of the Land Title Act 1994 (Qld), and addresses both common law and statutory regulation of mortgages, leases and easements with particular focus on the Property Law Act 1974 (Qld).

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse and critique the concept of property through historical and contemporary perspectives
  • Resolve legal issues involving land law through analysing legal problems by researching and applying relevant statute and case law
  • Apply knowledge and legal principles to land law scenarios

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (70%) - Individual
  • Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (30%) - Individual
