Subject Description

    This subject introduces you to the process of effective communication while also identifying your strengths and weaknesses in differing communication mediums. You will be challenged to adopt new communication techniques and utilise health informatics systems to enhance your interpersonal and professional communication skills.

Learning Outcomes

  • discuss barriers to and facilitators of effective therapeutic and professional communication
  • demonstrate effective interpersonal communication with individuals and groups
  • identify the goals of effective communication for health professionals and demonstrate the effective use of a variety of communication mediums and information systems
  • apply elements of effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication to therapeutic and professional interactions

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in at least 80% of scheduled tutorial classes/specified online content; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
